Job Title:      Employment Coordinator

Location:      Antelope Valley

Reports to:   Employment Team Leader

Hours:          Full time, M – F 9am to 5pm (flexible work schedule, occasional weekends and holidays)

Salary:         Equivalent to $30,000 - $32,000 DOE + Flexible Benefit Plan

FLSA:           Non-Exempt

Summary:  Working in all employment service options to assists adult with mental illness to improve and enhance their level of employment functioning and to identifying employment interests, skills, experience and options in order to facilitate the member’s development and pursuit of a plan that leads to employment in the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.  This is not an exhaustive task list, and other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate or necessary by the supervisor or program director.  Reasonable accommodation will be provided to any qualified person with a medical or psychiatric disability, providing it will not change the essential nature of the position, nor cause undue hardship to the Association’s operations.

 

Work Adjustment Training Program

  • Provides training to DOR consumers employed at Work Adjustment sites. Reflects the standard in expectations of competitive community employment. Provides on-going instruction, support and reinforcement to assist DOR consumers to meet clear expectations. 
  • Orients new DOR consumer-employees.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of services and updates procedures to ensure that the worksite runs as an efficient and effective training vehicle.
  • Evaluates the DOR consumer’s work performance.
  • Leads monthly workgroup meetings designed to provide a team identity and encourage ownership of the job.

Pre-Employment Services

  • Gathers input from DOR counselor, mental health case coordinator and DOR consumers to develop a comprehensive Individual Service Plan (ISP) of each DOR consumers’ background with regard to work experience, strengths and limitations, barriers, and DOR Counselors IPE.
  • Provides information, referrals and resources available to all DOR consumers that address the array of potential barriers to employment (such as child care or elder care, housing, ADA, legal, mental health advocacy, transportation, etc).
  • Assists each DOR consumer to understand and utilize employment search software along with other tools and available sources of information. Provides concrete, individualized support for overcoming obstacles that impact the DOR consumer’s performance in competitive employment setting.
  • Provides employment service aids such as benefits guides, interview techniques and role-playing opportunities, technical job search materials (such as resume and cover letter writing, application completion, etc.), grooming and hygiene instructions, phones and an answering service.
  • Provides instruction designed to address topics such as motivation, awareness of employer and co-worker expectations, coping techniques on the job, identifying natural supports, the effects of working on SSI benefits, self care, the changing social role, etc.

Job Development/Placement Services

Job develops and markets the employment program in the community for individual placements, vocational goal-related options, on the job training and group placements.

Maintain an on-going rapport with employers for whom DOR consumers work.Participates in extensive community outreach and business network development activities.

Assists DOR consumers by providing support with the application, hiring process and initial phase of employment.

 

Follow Up Services

  • Provides regular follow-up on assigned clients with regular on-site visits.  Provides on-going needs assessment, assistance and support of assigned clients to assure successful job performance and maintenance of the job.  Provides individualized on-the-job support and constructive feedback to enhance employee productivity and maximize scheduled work hours. 
  • Provides individualized off-the-job support and constructive feedback in overcoming obstacles that impact the client’s performance on the job, i.e., proper attire, hygiene and grooming, transportation, proper ID and work documentation, punctuality, attendance and similar.
  • Provides individualized support on reporting income to Social Security, on employer expectations, understanding the new employee handbook and the company’s policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with PSC, case manager, DOR Counselors or other relevant parties when problems arise that affect or have the potential to affect the employee’s job performance.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with consumers of employment services.  Provides a positive and consistent role model of personal and work behavior for clients.  Works with employees and employers to keep lines of communication open. 
  • Facilitates employment group (Ohana Crew) for DOR consumers to encourage and capitalize on peer support
  • Provide Follow-Along services to DOR consumers until the case is successfully closed.

 Additional Responsibilities

  • Complete DOR and other case service contract-related documentation such as monthly progress reports and personnel activity reports.
  • Participates in the monthly review and update of consumers Individual Service Plans.
  • Participates in regular meetings with the Employment Team Leader regarding DOR requirements and contract-related services.
  • Participate actively in staff and member meetings as needed or assigned.  Participate in staff training as assigned.  Participate in the activities and community life of the site. Provide community liaison services as needed or assigned.  Provide 24 hour emergency coverage as needed or assigned.
  • Maintain all records and documentation required for program compliance and accountability in accordance with MHA standards and funding source requirements.

EXPERIENCE

Associate degree in a specific rehabilitation related field (e.g. Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant)

Minimum 1 year experience providing psychosocial rehab related services to a disabled population.

Bachelor degree in a human service or related field

No experience required, but preferred.
